Our story
Why SailingCourses.com.au exists
We’re Gabriel and Kristy, the couple behind SailingCourses.com.au and YouSail.
Our dream is simple: buy a sailing yacht, move aboard and see where the wind takes us. Australia first, then the Pacific, and perhaps much further. We are not there yet. We are still learning, taking courses, spending time on boats and asking a lot of questions.
One question kept returning: which sailing course actually fits the life we are working towards? The answers were spread across training-body syllabuses, state boating rules, school websites, forums and social groups. Course names that sounded similar often taught very different things.
We wanted one place that brought the pathways together without pretending there was one universal sailing licence or one perfect school. We could not find it, so we built it.

What we are building
Useful guidance without pretending to know everything
The honest position
We are learners too
We are not expert sailors and we have not completed every course in Australia. What we can do is find information, compare it carefully and make it easier to use. Important decisions still belong with the current issuing body, regulator, instructor and provider.
The wider network
One part of an Australian sailing network
Sailing Courses sits alongside YouSail and a growing network covering sailing schools, clubs, charters, marinas and marine services. Each site answers a different practical question on the path towards more time on the water.
Moving aboard means running out of excuses

Data relationship
How YouSail powers sailing school listings
School facts from YouSail
Published school membership, contact details, locations, service areas, opening hours, logos and photos are read through YouSail’s protected content API. The site refreshes those records every six hours and removes a page when its YouSail detail record is no longer published.
Editorial guidance from this site
Course explanations, comparisons, booking questions, regulatory summaries and provider context are written for SailingCourses.com.au. They are not supplied or approved by the schools listed.
Why the boundary matters
Editorial standards
How information is checked
- Course names, durations and prerequisites are checked against the organisation that owns the syllabus.
- Licensing, radio and commercial requirements are checked against Australian regulators and state authorities.
- Prices are treated as indicative and must be confirmed directly because membership, location and inclusions change them.
- School contact and media records are attributed to the YouSail feed; explanatory wording remains ours.
- Material course guides show a fact-checked date and link to a primary source.
- Corrections are reviewed against a source rather than accepted as marketing claims.
Corrections
Tell us when something has changed
Courses, rules and provider details change. A useful correction names the affected page, explains what is wrong and includes a current primary or provider source. We review the evidence and update the guide or corresponding YouSail listing as appropriate.
